CANDICE SWANEPOEL

Home > Features > South Africa’s Candice Swanepoel Makes Forbes Top 10 Supermodel Rich List 2011.

South Africa’s Candice Friday, May 6th, 2011

This is quite some interesting news as we know that being a Supermodel who stays relevant is hard enough. Candice is definitely making waves, and fast in the Fashion Industry, with just an Italian Vogue Cover & a Victoria’s Secret deal in less than two years. It is quite commendable that she closes this Power List as a New Entry for Supermodels who have made the most earning from May  2010 – Present with $3 Million Dollars!
It may be a far cry from the large amounts models use to make before the recession, but studies show that “consumers are again cautiously spending on luxury goods, the 10 top-earning female models on the planet made a combined $112 million in the 12 months to May–up 30% from a total of $86.5 million over the previous year”.
Although, “most of this gain was enjoyed by the top three: Gisele Bündchen, Heidi Klum and Kate Moss who have transformed themselves from supermodels to business moguls, stepping off the runway and into the role of designers, entrepreneurs and pop icons.” – Forbes.
Congratulations to Candice for making this list as well as joining African Power Names like Iman & Oluchi in putting Africa on the Fashion Map!
Other Names of the Forbes 2011 List are:
  • Adriana Lima
  • Alessandra Ambrosio
  • Daria Werbowy
  • Lara Stone
  • Carolyn Murphy
  • Natalia Vodianova

Steve Jobs’ Last Words: Oh Wow!

October 30, 2011 by
Steve Jobs’ sister, Mona Simpson wrote a moving Eulogy for him and it was published by the New York Times.  In it she tells that … Steve’s final words were:
“OH WOW. OH WOW. OH WOW.”
.
She also goes on to list  things that she learned from her brother and she lists them…. :
Steve worked at what he loved. He worked really hard. Every day. That’s incredibly simple, but true.
He was the opposite of absent-minded.
He was never embarrassed about working hard, even if the results were failures. If someone as smart as Steve wasn’t ashamed to admit trying, maybe I didn’t have to be.
When he got kicked out of Apple, things were painful. He told me about a dinner at which 500 Silicon Valley leaders met the then-sitting president. Steve hadn’t been invited.
He was hurt but he still went to work at Next. Every single day.
Novelty was not Steve’s highest value. Beauty was.
For an innovator, Steve was remarkably loyal. If he loved a shirt, he’d order 10 or 100 of them. In the Palo Alto house, there are probably enough black cotton turtlenecks for everyone in this church.
He didn’t favor trends or gimmicks. He liked people his own age.
His philosophy of aesthetics reminds me of a quote that went something like this: “Fashion is what seems beautiful now but looks ugly later; art can be ugly at first but it becomes beautiful later.”
Steve always aspired to make beautiful later.
He was willing to be misunderstood.
Uninvited to the ball, he drove the third or fourth iteration of his same black sports car to Next, where he and his team were quietly inventing the platform on which Tim Berners-Lee would write the program for the World Wide Web.
Steve was like a girl in the amount of time he spent talking about love. Love was his supreme virtue, his god of gods. He tracked and worried about the romantic lives of the people working with him.
Steve was humble. Steve liked to keep learning.
With his four children, with his wife, with all of us, Steve had a lot of fun. He treasured happiness.
He was a special man indeed. You can read the rest of Mona’s eulogy on The New York Times.

Winter Season Looks!

April 15, 2011 by
Hey guys, with the Winter fast approaching, thought I would take this chance to write a lil’ piece of the latest trends to hit the Winter season..
Hope you have fun with it..
COATS

GREYS
Grey can be lively and interesting when its a speckled tweed fabric as well as cool and expensively severe in dove silver grey to deepest charcoal. Belted grey coats like these below are a mainstay of every retailers collection for Winter. So forget what you’ve heard about the colour grey being boring, this is how to bring it to life..

FAUX FUX

This is so comfy, you won’t need a man when you have this for those winter nights, so for all the single ladies, go get some..
CREAMS

Cream coats are classy and look expensive because they need to be pristine for best effect. The quality of the material is important.
CARAMELS

These neutral base colours in varying camel, biscuit tan, cappuccino and grey shades are touted as the understated investment colours of the winter season.
Blacks

Blanket coats offer a less structured and easy-to-wear look. Feel so comfy, it’s as if you’ve taken your blanket with.
Bright colours
These three ladies coats show how much variety is in store for you
…. and how you can work all colours

and that you don’t have to be limited to dark colours.

DRESSES
The shift dress is a must have this season.

Will take you from 9-5 to drinks with the girls, just choose your accessories carefully.
KNITS
Knitwear was huge n the runway, D&G did a collection and was just amazing.

Think Eskimo, festive kinda patterns. It’s all about bringing the outdoors to indoors.

This trend works on any age, body shape and any lifestyle. Layering is also key with this trend.

SHOES / BOOTS
Knee high boots are a life saver for the Winter season .Look out for boots with lavishly trimmed with bows, buckles, raching, beading, chain ribbon straps, eyelets and zips.
These will last you for years to come. Great investment, especially pure leather.

SHOES BOOTS
This way you have the best of the Boot and Shoes at the same fun.

Can be worn with everything, team them up with a dress and tights for a night out, wear with some jeans for a simple but yet fashionable look. They are a MUST have…

CLOGGS
The were a hit on the runway, Chanel did a collection, well here a more affordable look for less.

Look for ones that have fur on the inside to keep you warm for Winter.

Hope there is something for each and every one of you.

Most of the items listed here/ similar can be found in http://www.asos.com/ which is a UK based online store but delivers in SA…….For FREE so no excuses ladies….
HAPPY SHOPPING!!!!

PICS: David Tlale Opens New Store

September 7, 2011 by
On Sunday, 4 September 2011, the first ever David Tlale flagship store was launched at an invite only event at the Michelangelo Towers in Sandton.
“The last eight years have been about establishing the David Tlale brand here at home and abroad. We believe that we’ve done a good job of building and developing the brand ; we can now focus on the actual retail side of the business. It is time to start generating some revenue and build a sustainable fashion label,” said Tlale.
Situated in the mall’s luxury lane, the store is located on the upper level at U01 and is aimed at providing access to the public to have an intimate moment with the signature David Tlale creations. Shoppers are afforded the opportunity to own ready-to-wear David Tlale pieces in their closets. With the look and feel of luxury, only a few of these outfits will be sold.

Oh, if you’re wondering about prices, some of the garments we saw range from R2K – R15K. Nothing compared to the usual LVs and Gucci’s, right? LOL
All the best to David Tlale on his new store, the man’s star keeps shining brighter and brighter. He is jetting of to New York City to showcase at the United Colours Of Fashion. We’re positive he’ll blow them away.
